Scarves, also known as wraps, ruanas, throws and shawls, are a quick and easy way to express personal style and change up an outfit. They come in every print, color, shape, size and texture imaginable and can be purchased from a variety of sources. These versatile accessories can express the wearer’s mood, make us think of a culture or place, and change any outfit into something different.
The only limit on how you use a scarf is your imagination. Depending on the size of a scarf, you can wrap it around your neck, wear it as a skirt, or create a shirt.
Scarves are also functional. During the fall and winter they can add a much needed layer of warmth. They can also deflect attention away from figure flaws and highlight assets.
Whether silk, satin or polyester, high end or low end, scarves are an easy way to inject your personality into an outfit. My style is classic and somewhat conservative, but scarves can be used to create edgy, sexy, preppy, bohemian and artsy styles. They are also a quick and easy way to add texture and/or color, and are appropriate for women of all ages.
As far as clothes go, scarves tend to be the least expensive items in a clothing line. Even if you can’t afford a shirt or dress in the brand you desire, you may be able to afford a scarf from that brand. Furthermore, there are a lot of low cost options such as the kimono scarf from Walmart pictured below.
As if other reasons are needed to like scarves, unlike other clothing, you will always fit your scarves. Whether you gain or lose weight, they can remain your go-to. Plus, they are easy to store and don’t take up a lot of space.
